Bright & Cheerful Motherhood's creator, Kierstyn, on her wedding day

When I tell people about my new journey as a blogger and small shop owner, I always have to brag about my husband a bit. Honestly, I never would have come this far if it weren't for him. He has been my biggest support and encourages me to continue pursuing my dream. In fact, he's currently playing with our son, keeping him busy, as I write this post.

My husband is my absolute best friend.

This last November we celebrated 5 years of marriage. I still can't believe how far we've come from that first day we met in college...

Throwback to September 8, 2011

I met Nathan on the very first day of class my sophomore year of college when he took the empty seat next to me. Now this wasn't just any empty seat. No, this was a seat that managed to stay empty as the rest of the class completely filled up. Let me explain...

I had a particular method for first days. I would get to the classroom at least ten minutes early, giving me enough time to find my ideal seat. Next, I would look for a seat that wasn't too close to the front, but also wasn't the back row. It also needed to be close to the center aisle, but not exactly the aisle seat. I don't really know why, but this was my preference and where I felt most comfortable.

Many of my classes were small, somewhere between 15 and 30 students, but this class was rather large with many seats to choose from. I quickly found a seat that fit my preference, and then I waited. The class slowly began to fill up, but the aisle seat to my right remained open. When there were hardly any open seats left, and with nearly a minute left before the class was scheduled to start, he walked in.

"Wow, he's cute..."

A tall redhead propped up his longboard beside the desk and sat down in the seat next to me. He introduced himself to me and told me he had transferred in from a community college. I thought he was cute from the start, but he didn't seem to take interest in me in that way. Nonetheless, he was very friendly and easy to talk to.

After weeks of sitting next to each other and walking together to my next class (which was on the way to his parked car), we got to know each other a little better and unknowingly laid the foundation for a lifetime friendship.

We kept in touch after the semester ended, and a year later we took our friendship to the next level when he (finally) asked me out.

This September will mark the 10th anniversary of us meeting for the first time--ten years of a beautiful friendship and many, many more years to come!
