I am so happy to introduce Bright & Cheerful's very first guest blogger: Mikayla from The New Mommie! Enjoy her post on what she has found to be the most rewarding parts of motherhood with her six-month-old son.
There are a lot of really hard moments during early motherhood, but there are also a lot of truly rewarding things that happen. When you are expecting a baby, you look forward to those exciting moments and milestones that make you want to be a mom! I remember looking forward to those moments more than anything, but I didn’t even know JUST how good they would be!
Here are a few of my most rewarding experiences I’ve had with my 6-month-old son!
When Your Baby is on Your Chest for The First Time
This is easily a moment that we all look forward to when we’re pregnant, right? It’s even better than you can ever imagine though! You almost immediately forget about all the pain and suffering that you’ve gone through for the last 9 months (and especially the last few hours). You don’t even care how gross that baby might be after birth either. You will just want to hold and cuddle that baby for as long as you’re allowed to! Holding that baby for the first time is the BEST reward after pregnancy.
When They Hit Their Milestones
I didn’t even know how much I would look forward to these, but I am always SO excited for the next milestone. Milestones are so rewarding, but they can also be sad because you see your baby growing up so fast! Since being a mom and watching these milestones, I have found that even the littlest milestones are so exciting to me. The little things that got me excited were, when my baby grabbed toys better, when he could hold his head up all the way, when he lifted his chest more during tummy time, etc. Every milestone, big or small, can be very rewarding!
Smiles and Giggles
My baby has been smiling and giggling for several months now, but my heart still melts every time he does. If you're having a bad day and you aren’t feeling like the best mom, those sweet gummy smiles will change your mind immediately! If you are frustrated with trying to manage your time and balance everything in life, those adorable belly laughs will keep you from caring about anything else in the world! Those smiles, and giggles are the best rewards for those sleepless nights, cold meals, endless laundry, sore nipples, and all of the less exciting things about having a baby.
When They Give You Snuggles
I might have just gotten lucky with a super cuddly baby, but oh my, I LOVE the snuggles! Sometimes my baby is grouchy no matter what I try (which can get really frustrating and exhausting)--he won’t calm down. Lately, I’ll grab a blanket and just sit on the couch and snuggle him. Almost every time that I do this, he will just stare into my eyes and be completely content. I’ll totally forget that he was even crying and that I was frustrated. The loves and cuddles are truly such a reward. They won’t stay this snuggly and cuddly forever, so take advantage of that!
When You Capture the Sweetest Pictures
I am a total picture person. I always have my phone near me, so I can catch those special moments. Personally, I feel like those photos are extremely rewarding! Those are memories and cute moments that you can keep with you forever! I like to set-up little photoshoots on the floor at home, and honestly, they totally exhaust me! It’s so tiring to gather all the stuff, take pictures and keep the baby happy, and then go put it all away. BUT, those photos that I get are my favorite! If you put forth the effort to take some cute pictures of your baby, you won’t regret it! It will be one of the most rewarding things for you to look back on!
When Your Baby Starts Reaching For You
It’s so sweet when your baby has finally reached the point where they fully recognize who you are. It’s even sweeter when they reach for you because they clearly want YOU. My baby recently started doing this and it is so fun! Even though I know that he needs me, it really makes me feel that need on a different level.
God sent you this precious little soul, and thankfully, He sent lots of rewarding moments too. Motherhood can be so hard. It is so easy to doubt yourself and your abilities, but that baby loves you more than anything! It is so healthy for your mama heart to experience these rewarding moments. They make it SO incredibly worth it. Soak it all up, because it won’t last forever!
