Those Two Little Lines: My First Big Fat Positive

My husband and I were so excited to start a family. We had been married just one month shy of two years when we felt like we were ready to start trying for a baby.

Our plans for a little one seemed to align with God's big plan for us, because the following month we were blessed with our first pregnancy.

It was a couple weeks before Christmas, and I didn't know for sure yet, but I definitely was feeling some symptoms. I'm not going to lie, but my very first symptom was having a lot of gas. Like a hilarious amount.

I still remember sitting on the floor in our living room making a Christmas wreath for our front door when I couldn't stop laughing because of this very strange symptom. My husband didn't find it quite as funny... Sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself.

Anyway, a couple of days later I began noticing a few more symptoms as well as being three days late for my period. I was so nervous, but I knew I just couldn't wait any longer. I secretly planned to take a test.

That following morning I woke up well before I normally would on a Saturday, and I tiptoed my way to the bathroom.

I had one test left from a two-pack box I eagerly bought a month earlier.

After using the test, I shut my eyes tightly so as not to see anything before putting it on the counter to wait those extremely long 3 minutes...

I prayed and prayed.

And then, I looked.

There they were, two blue lines staring back at me! I dropped to my knees crying with joy as I thanked God for the precious gift.

I was going to be a mother!

And my husband was going to be a father! I had dreamed for two years of how I would surprise Nathan with the news--I had promised him that he would always be the first to know. Even with all my elaborate dreaming, I opted for a simple and sweet way to break the news.

I tiptoed back into the bedroom and crawled back into bed. Nathan is such a deep sleeper that I know he had no idea I had even been out of bed for the last 15 minutes. So I cuddled close to him and whispered "Good morning, daddy!"

I wish I had thought to film his reaction... He quickly opened his eyes and exclaimed, "What?! Seriously? No way!" and immediately hugged me so tight.

We both spent the rest of that morning in complete awe and excitement. We could hardly keep ourselves from calling everyone we knew. But we waited until Christmas to share the news with the family. (Post coming soon!)

Months later we were blessed with a beautiful, healthy, baby boy with his daddy's hair and his mama's eyes. I thank God every day for my sweet boy.
