The same week I got my first positive pregnancy test, I started creating a baby registry. And, believe me, I went crazy with all the different baby products I added to the list.
The problem was that I had no idea what I really would need for my baby, so I went off of everything each store told me I needed. I literally had four different strollers and three different baby carriers listed on my registry simply because Babies R Us suggested it. It was madness. Thankfully, I quickly realized my mistake.
If you haven't been told already, let me be the first to say, you don't need it all.
Stores are going to give you long lists of "must haves" for your baby registry, but it's ultimately up to you to decide what is going to work best for your family. For example, just because that well-known baby store says you need a wipe-warmer does not mean you actually need one.
I've put together a free downloadable registry checklist that is narrowed down to all the products I think you should add to your list. Keep in mind, you don't have to register for everything.
Here are some things to consider when creating your list:
Do not feel guilty asking for gift receipts. It's better to exchange gifts for things you need than to clutter your space with items and clothing you won't use.
People WILL buy you ALL the clothes. Encourage family and friends to buy clothing from 3 months to 2 years.
Consider registering for only the newborn "must haves" and ask for gift cards to later purchase items such as a baby jumper, a high chair, toddler shoes, baby gates, etc.
Ask for signed board books instead of cards.
Don't get caught up registering at only one store... I used Babylist!
Babylist is an online registry where you can list any item from any store. You can even register for items that you can't purchase, like home cooked meals, house-cleaning, and more! I loved being able to list items from big stores like Target and BuyBuy Baby to items from online-only stores like Amazon and Etsy.
Remember, whatever you choose to put on your baby's registry, make it what's best for you and your family.
